In 1971, the 169 towns in Connecticut had 104 Conservation Commissions and some 40 towns had established Land Trusts to preserve open space. In the summer of 1972, a movement was launched in North Haven simultaneously by two local groups. the Conservation Commission and the Coordinating Council.
On September 1, 1972, after a series of meetings and a lot of hard work, a group, interested in both conservation and a better community, incorporated the North Haven Land Trust. The trust is a private, not-for-profit corporation not associated with any town office, committee, or commission.
The original incorporators include: George Male, Samuel Clinton, George Smith, James Campbell, Rey Archambault, Adrienne Hudson, Jeanne Arnone, John Barnett, Lewis Nelson, Allen Dehar, Victor Nutile, Ralph Earle, Louis Sonazzaro, Edward Gordon, and Raymond Wooding.
This group of incorporators fashioned the core of our activity today.
